Common radiator faults that MPS Heating can help with
  • Air in the radiator: This is a common problem and can be easily fixed by bleeding the radiator. To do this, locate the bleed valve, which is usually a small, cylindrical valve located at the top of the radiator. Insert the radiator key into the bleed valve and turn it anti-clockwise until you hear a hissing sound. This will release the trapped air.
    Sludge or debris: Over time, sludge and debris can build up in the radiator, which can restrict the flow of hot water. This can cause the radiator to heat up slowly or not at all. To fix this problem, you will need to have the radiator flushed. This involves removing the radiator from the wall and cleaning it with a special solution.
  • Leaking radiator: If your radiator is leaking, it is important to fix the leak as soon as possible to prevent damage to your home. The leak could be caused by a faulty valve, a loose connection, or a crack in the radiator itself. To fix the leak, you will need to identify the cause of the leak and then take the appropriate action.
  • Faulty radiator valve: The radiator valve controls the flow of hot water to the radiator. If the valve is faulty, it can cause the radiator to overheat or not heat up at all. To fix this problem, you will need to replace the radiator valve.
    Radiator not working at all! If your radiator is not working at all, it could be due to a number of problems, such as a faulty boiler, a blockage in the pipework, or a problem with the radiator itself.  In these instances, it may be a case of a heating engineer such as ourselves having to visit and diagnose the fault.  CALL US

  • Have your radiators flushed every 2-3 years.
  • Bleed your radiators regularly, especially after the winter months.
  • Keep your radiators clean and free of dust and dirt.
  • Inspect your radiators regularly for leaks or damage.
  • Call a qualified plumber or heating engineer if you notice any problems with your radiators.
